Revere was historically known for its beach and resort tourism, being home to the first public beach in the United States and the popular Revere Beach amusement park (now closed). It was incorporated as a town in 1846 (as North Chelsea, renamed Revere in 1871). Today, Revere is known for Revere Beach (still a popular public beach) and for being a very diverse, urban community adjacent to Logan Airport. Landmarks include the Revere Beach Reservation and the former Suffolk Downs Racetrack. Major highways that run through Revere include US Route 1, Route 1A, and Route 60.
