Quincy was historically known as the birthplace of two US Presidents, John Adams and John Quincy Adams, and as a major center for granite quarrying (Quincy Granite) and shipbuilding. It was incorporated as a town in 1792, separating from Braintree. Today, Quincy is a vibrant city known for its historic significance, its burgeoning waterfront, and its proximity to Boston via the MBTA Red Line. Landmarks include the Adams National Historical Park and the Quincy Quarries Reservation. Major highways include I-93/US Route 1 (the Southeast Expressway) and Route 3A.
